IPL PhotoFacial
Introduction to IPL Photofacial
Our skin has many so amazing qualities that most people take for granted. It can heal on its own if damaged, change pigmentation with sun exposure, and can stretch and snap back into place like nothing ever happened. Unfortunately, as you get older, your body has difficulty producing the necessary amount of proteins, fibers, and tissue to recover as efficiently. Thankfully, there are treatments that we offer at Seattle Face & Skin that will not only promote the production of these healing factors but also make you look a little more youthful in the process. One of these treatments we provide for our Seattle patients is IPL Photofacial, which is a non-surgical, quick recovery treatment that can help fix minor skin impurities.
What is IPL Photofacial?
An IPL Photofacial can bring youthfulness back to your skin by reducing and removing both vascular and pigmented lesions caused by age and sun damage. The IPL laser emits light energy into your skin that targets pigment-producing cells in a non-ablative treatment. The energy from the laser works to destroy the pigment-producing cells, allowing your body to absorb the pigmentation as it heals naturally. IPL can be used to treat the following problems:
- Freckles and Sunspots
- Rosacea
- Dilated Blood Vessels
- Pigment Imperfections
- Redness
What are the Benefits of IPL Photofacial?
Our Seattle IPL Photofacial patients have seen many benefits for their skin which include:
- Eliminate scar tissue after multiple sessions
- Help control acne breakouts
- Kill harmful bacteria
- Reduce redness and inflammation
- Repair smaller blood vessels
- Safe, quick, and pain-free procedure
- Treatment is affordable
Who are the Best Candidates for IPL Photofacial?
Since IPL targets pigment, it is generally best suited for those with lighter skin tones (Fitzpatrick scores of I-IV), as those with darker skin may become discolored. However, by altering the power setting of the laser, IPL can be suitable for almost everybody (with exceptions for those with melasma, as it can cause these spots to become darker.)

IPL PhotoFacial FAQs
Your procedure questions answered.
-
IPL Photofacial is considered to be one of the safest light-based treatments available. The treatment should cause you little-to-no pain during or after your treatment, and if any side effects do occur, they should heal on their own after a few hours, however, it may take up to a few days.
-
Multiple treatments are typically required to optimize the results of IPL. A package of three treatments is usually recommended, though some patients may benefit from an additional one to two treatments as needed.
-
Many patients see some level of results after the first treatment, as hyperpigmentation of the skin begins to fade and redness is reduced. Others may require a full round of 3-5 treatments as prescribed before noticing an evening of skin tone. Complete results can be expected approximately three months following the final treatment. However, sun protection is critical both during and after the treatment sequence, as sun spots and redness can return with further sun exposure and damage to the skin.
-
Of course! Since IPL Photofacial is designed to improve your skin and give you a more youthful appearance, you may want to utilize other rejuvenation treatments such as BOTOX or Facial Fillers to enhance your look. If you would like to hear our expert recommendations, please discuss your goals and desires when you come in for your consultation.
-
As with all laser treatments, risks include skin discoloration, blistering, scarring, and not receiving the desired effects of IPL treatment. To minimize these risks, Dr. Bhrany will work with you to establish a treatment plan that is best suited to your skin type, needs, and desires.
